Who are Luke and Leia?

Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is the heroic protagonist of George Lucas' original Star Warstrilogy. He grows up on the planet Tatooine with his uncle and aunt and later goes on a mission with the old Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to save Princess Leia Organa. After the Imperial forces kill his family, Luke becomes Obi-Wan's apprentice and joins the Rebel Alliance in the fight against the Empire. Over time, he discovers that Leia is his twin sister, from whom he was separated at birth, and that the feared Sith Lord Darth Vader actually his father, Anakin Skywalker, who has fallen to the dark side of the Force.

Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) is the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala and the twin sister of Luke Skywalker. After Padmé's death in connection with the twins' birth and Anakin's transformation into Darth Vader, Leia is secretly adopted by Bail Organa, ruler of the planet Alderaan, to protect her from Vader and his master, the Emperor Palpatine. At a young age, she joins the Rebel Alliance and becomes one of its most important leaders in the fight against the Empire.

Luke and Leia Movie Poster – an iconic statue

The artist, graphic designer and illustrator Tom Jung is the creator behind the classic The Style A movie poster who introduced Star Wars in American cinemas in 1977. With the theme ”"good versus evil"” Jung created one of the most iconic motifs in film history: a stylized Luke Skywalker in a heroic pose with his shining lightsaber raised above his head, while Princess Leia stands below with a blaster pistol in his hand and a sweeping white cloak behind him.

Tom Jung's original work was later reinterpreted by The Hildebrandt brothers for the British The Style B poster, followed by Style C, created by Tom Chantrell.
